Tashkent medical Academy has established cooperation with leading medical institutions of Latvia.

In order to ensure performance of tasks for establishment of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan close promising partnerships with leading specialized foreign scientific and educational institutions, stipulated by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures for further development of the system of higher education”, 11-15 December 2017 in Riga, the rector of the Tashkent medical Academy Prof. L. by Tuichieva held meetings and negotiations with the leadership of the University of Latvia, Riga University named after Stradiņš University and Riga East clinical University hospital.

For reference:  Riga Stradins University was founded in 1950 on the basis of the medical faculty of the University of Latvia. Currently, the University is a leading medical educational establishment of Latvia. The University consists of 9 faculties, 9 laboratories, 4 research institutes, 35 clinical educational bases, the staff of the University has 1,400 employees. In total, the University enrolls more than 10,000 students of which more than 2500 foreign students (60% of foreign students are citizens of Germany and Sweden).

The medical faculty of the University of Latvia was established in 1919 for the training of physicians and restored in 1997. Currently, the Department trains more than 1200 students. The teaching staff consists of 122 professionals.

Riga Eastern clinical University hospital is the largest and leading multi-field medical institution of Latvia. The hospital staff 4396 employees. In a year hospital provides services to more than 100,000 inpatients and 300,000 outpatients. The number of beds – 2000. The hospital is a clinical base for training of students of Riga Stradins University and Latvian University/

During these meetings, particular attention was paid to the development of cooperation in the field of medical education and science by organizing joint medical programs and research activities, exchange of professors, retraining and training of teachers and students of the Academy in Latvia.

The Parties also considered possible ways to implement bilateral cooperation in the direction of retraining and advanced training of medical teachers, involvement of leading professors and medical specialists of Latvia for master classes, seminars and practical classes at the Academy and its Urgench and Ferghana branches, as well as perform joint publication of scientific articles, collaborative research and participation in scientific programs within the framework of grants for educational institutions.            The outcome of the meetings was the signing of memoranda of understanding, which will be a strong basis for the development of further fruitful cooperation.

The expansion and development of international relations in the field of medical education and establishment of cooperation with leading medical institutions around the world promotes the exchange of experiences in innovative approaches for medical personnel training and introduction into the learning process of medical students of Uzbekistan best international practices that will improve the level of medical care provided to the population in accordance with international standards.

Staff are planning a visit to the above institutions of Latvia in order to improve training, collaborative clinical and scientific research, can apply to the international Department of TMA.
