Tashkent Medical Academy has gained international recognition

On February 25, 2020, Tashkent Medical Academy became the first among all medical universities in the country to be officially accepted as a full-featured member of the Association of European Medical Schools.

This significant event took place during the visit to TMA of Professor Algirdas Utkus, the vice-president of the Association, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University (Lithuania),  and the delegation of the Vilnius University in the joint Educational Forum with the Tashkent Medical Academy.

In the course of the forum, professor Laziz Tuychiev, the rector of the Tashkent Medical Academy, has been awarded the certificate on the official acceptance of TMA into the membership of the European Association.

General information: Association of Medical Schools of Europe was founded in 1979 as the Association of Heads of Medical Schools of Europe. Today, the Association is one of the largest and leading venues of higher medical educational institutions in Europe to address the most significant issues in the development of medical education.

Along with that, together with the main accreditation organizations in Europe, the Association implements projects on organization of the assessment of the quality and conformity of medical educational programs with the Higher Education Standards in Europe and the Standards of the World Federation for Medical Education.

The entry of TMA into the Association of European Medical Schools and its active membership in this authoritative international organization is one of the practical steps towards internationalizing of medical universities in Uzbekistan and improving the quality of educational programs to meet advanced international standards.

Within the framework of this event, the Minister of Health of Lithuania has addressed the official welcome message to the participants of the forum, the members of Vilnius University administration and administration of the Tashkent Medical Academy have delivered the speech, and the ways of cooperation have been discussed to facilitate the implementation of the credit-module system to the educational process in the Academy.

To recap, under the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of October 8, 2019 “On Approving the Concept of Development of the Higher Education System of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030”, measures are being envisaged for introducing the credit-modular system into  the educational process in higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

General information: Vilnius University is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe. It was founded in 1579. Today, the university is one of the leaders in medical science and education in the European Union. Vilnius University was among the first among the universities of the Baltic States to successfully introduce a credit-modular system to the educational process and improve its educational programs to meet the European standards.

Following the forum, the partnership agreement has been signed by the Tashkent Medical Academy and Vilnius University, which will become the basis for implementing projects to improve the quality of medical education.

During the visit of the Lithuanian delegation, it is also planned to hold a series of joint educational events, a joint meeting of the Academic Council of TMA and Vilnius University, meetings with students, lectures and workshops under the auspices of the leading university professors at the Tashkent Medical Academy and TMA regional branches.

The implementation of such cooperation is aimed at comprehensive improvement in the quality of medical education, and such a practical step as the entry of the Tashkent Medical Academy into the European Association shall promote the comprehensive involvement of all medical universities in Uzbekistan in the process of international integration and internationalization of medical education in the country.
