On January 25, 2020, an international training course in applied epidemiology was launched at the Tashkent Medical Academy, in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The pandemic of the new coronavirus infection clearly showed the priority areas for improving the public health system. Today, when medical professionals around the world are bravely fighting COVID-19, the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the country, safety, health and life of people depend on the level of preparedness of medical personnel and their professional skills.
The quality of training of epidemiologists, the use in their work of the best international experience and practice, the operational cooperation of epidemiologists with specialists in other fields, are key components in ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being in this difficult period for health systems of all countries.
Taking into account the high urgency of improving the quality of training of epidemiologists in our country, as well as in order to teach them international standards for conducting epidemiological investigations and advanced methods of responding to various outbreaks of diseases, the Tashkent Medical Academy is launching a modern advanced training course – a three-month American international training program for epidemiologists, which in January -April 2021 will be held in conjunction with leading CDC experts.
The first to be trained under this program will be 20 epidemiologists from all regions and the city of Tashkent, which will allow them to use scientifically grounded and internationally recognized methods of modern epidemiology everywhere in the near future.
During the opening ceremony of the program, the first group of training participants was greeted by Deputy Minister of Health, Head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Yusupaliev, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan Alan Melzer, Rector of the Tashkent Medical Academy Professor Alisher Shadmanov and CDC Central Asia Office Director Daniel Singer.
In their speeches, the speakers highly appreciated the cooperation between the countries in the field of healthcare, and also noted the importance of the international program launched at the Tashkent Medical Academy for the provision of highly qualified specialists of the Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Today’s start at the Tashkent Medical Academy of the international training program for applied epidemiology is a new level of training for epidemiologists of our country and another urgent step aimed at achieving greater efficiency in the implementation of measures in the field of public health, disease prevention and sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population.
