The Tashkent Medical Academy, which was the first medical university in the country, entered the Times Higher Education ranking – one of the most popular and independent international ratings of universities in the world.
For reference: The British edition of the Times Higher Education is an internationally recognized organization that publishes a ranking of the best world universities. The Times Higher Education ranking is one of the most influential global university rankings. The achievements of the universities are assessed based on the key results of the universities’ activities, as well as on the results of the annual global expert survey of the representatives of the international academic community and employers. These polls cover tens of thousands of the world’s leading scientists.
Achieving this high result was made possible thanks to the approved priority areas of the systemic reform of higher education in Uzbekistan, which are determined by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of October 8, 2019, No. UP-5847 “On approval of the Concept of development of the higher education system of the Republic of Uzbekistan before the year 2030”, as well as the ongoing TMA’s systematic efforts on reaching a new level of the training of highly qualified medical personnel.
According to the Times Higher Education rankings published on April 22, 2020, TMA is the only medical university in Uzbekistan which ranked among the 301+ rating group for good health and well-being.
For reference: In order to improve the quality of medical personnel training in the line with the advanced international level of medical education, during the period 2017-2019 372 representatives of TMA improved their skills and accomplished internships at the leading world medical centers and universities. In the same period, 361 foreign professors and medical specialists were involved in the educational process of TMA to carry out pedagogical activities and conduct medical seminaries.
Nowadays, as part of an international partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (Germany), the TMA appended the Innovation Center for Advanced Medical Technologies, equipped with the state-of-art simulation facilities and simulation robots (2020); while the cooperation with the Sechenov University (Russia) resulted in the formation of the “Center for Medical Interuniversity Cooperation” was formed (2019), and as part of the collaboration with the University of Korea (Republic of Korea) the “Joint Research Center” has been created and fit up with unique laboratory equipment (2018).
Every year, the “Good Health and Well-Being” rating outlines the best world universities that have achieved the highest results in such categories as the research in key medical science areas, training highly qualified personnel, and ensuring the health of students, teachers, and staff.
By simply contributing to these areas, medical universities demonstrate their important role in improving world medicine.
The ranking of Uzbekistan’s leading medical university – the Tashkent Medical Academy – among the Times Higher Education “Good health and well-being” rating testifies for its status of a world-class university and high international recognition of our country’s achievements in higher medical education and global health.
